STARS Gala Breaks Record
LEXINGTON The 30th annual STARS Gala, benefiting Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation was Saturday November 10, 2018 at the Lexington Center in downtown Lexington. Over 500 physicians, providers, community and Central Kentucky business leaders attended. A record $140,000 was raised to support the Emergency Department at Saint Joseph Hospital.
The Physician of the Year award for Saint Joseph Hospital was presented to surgeon John M. Harris, MD. Gastroenterologist Kathleen R. Martin, MD, was named Physician of the Year at Saint Joseph East. Also recognized was Karen Hillenmeyer, recipient of the 2018 Practitioner of the Year award from the Kentucky Academy of Physician Assistants.
“Each year, money raised at this gala helps fund facility projects including patient financial assistance, nursing scholarships, breast health, education and more,” said Leslie Buddeke Smart, CFRE, president, Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation.
Shriners Corporate Council Celebrates a Year of Giving
LEXINGTON The Shriners Corporate Council, a group of Central Kentucky business leaders, celebrated another year of giving to the new Shriners Medical Center, Lexington at a festive holiday event at Keene Place on the grounds of Keeneland on December 6, 2018. Over 100 members, guests and Shriners orthopedic surgeons attended.
Since its founding in 2015 the Council has funded over $503,00 in grants for education and training plus pediatric orthopedic instruments for use at the medical center, including an EOS imaging system, a 3M Attest Biological Reader, ARC therapy trainer, a surgical mini C-ARM and a children’s garden and playground at the new facility on the UK campus.
Recently the Council approved funding for a new pedobarograph plate for the Motion Analysis Center (MAC). The pedobarograph analyzes foot pressure of children with club feet, one of the most common pathologies seen in the MAC. The analyses are used to recommend treatment for patients and assess outcomes.
