“Insomnia is actually the biggest sleep problem that Americans have. Up to one-third of Americans will experience problems getting to sleep, staying asleep, or feeling like their sleep is less than perfect. In many cases, insomnia begins with some critical life event, such as loss of job or loved one, divorce, etc. These transient events have always been addressed with hypnotics. However, pills are not the solution to chronic insomnia; behavioral treatments are. Psychologists have done great work with developing CBT, cognitive behavioral therapies, for insomnia. Again, advancing technologies have allowed patients to help themselves with apps that are specifically designed to deal with these problems.”
