Lexington Medical Society’s President Address Brings Standing Ovation

LEXINGTON A full house, buoyed by Lexington physician mentors and their University of Kentucky medical school mentees, attended the president’s installation meeting of the Lexington Medical Society (LMS) on January 30, 2018 at the Boone Center on the UK campus.

Incoming LMS president Tuyen T. Tran, MD, MBA, who received the president’s gavel from outgoing president Robert Granacher, MD, gave an emotion-packed speech, recalling his life’s “journey that began in 1974, under the cover of night and tremendous explosions, as his family left Vietnam.”

Dr. Tran recalled being an eight-year old boy walking on the “sharp lava rocks of Guam” to the military base with his father. Ultimately, the family emigrated to Kansas City, Missouri with t-shirts, shorts, and tennis shoes. “I became a doctor in America, the land of opportunity, with people who make life better and contribute,” says Tran.

Tran outlined his goals for 2018, which included continuing the LMS physician wellness program; encouraging physician leadership development and mentorship; continuing legislative advocacy; and improving community health. The next meeting of the LMS membership is May 8, 2018.
